Medicube Red Succinic Acid Serum is a leave-on blemish treatment built around succinic acid, targeting active breakouts, oiliness and the redness that comes with them. Where the peeling pads exfoliate two or three times a week, this serum works continuously — and because succinic acid is antibacterial and calming rather than aggressively exfoliating, it can be used daily without the dryness that stronger acne actives cause.

Why succinic acid suits skin that cannot tolerate acne products
The standard acne actives — benzoyl peroxide, high-strength salicylic acid, retinoids — are effective but harsh. They work partly by drying and peeling, which is why so many people abandon them: the treatment leaves the skin red, flaking and more sensitive than the breakouts did.
Succinic acid takes a different route. Originally isolated from amber and now produced by fermentation, it is antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, mildly keratolytic and sebum-regulating. It addresses the causes of a breakout — bacteria, inflammation, blocked pores, excess oil — without relying on aggressive exfoliation to do it.
Two things follow that matter practically. It does not increase sun sensitivity, unlike AHAs — useful in Kuwait's year-round UV. And because it calms rather than irritates, it is less likely to leave a dark mark behind. That is significant for medium and deeper skin tones, where post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation frequently outlasts the spot that caused it, and where harsh treatments can create more pigmentation than they prevent.
Serum or pads — or both?
The Red Succinic Acid Peeling Pad combines the same active with physical exfoliation and is used two or three times a week. This serum is the leave-on version for daily use. Using both is reasonable — pads on exfoliation nights, serum every day — as long as you are not also layering other acids.
How to use it
- Cleanse and apply toner, then let the skin settle.
- Apply a few drops — across the whole face if breakouts are widespread, or directly onto affected areas.
- Pat gently until absorbed rather than rubbing.
- Follow with a light moisturiser, and sunscreen every morning.
Frequency: start once daily in the evening for the first week, then move to twice daily if comfortable. Give it time — expect around 4 weeks for a visible change in breakout frequency.
Combining: it layers well with niacinamide, hyaluronic acid and peptides. Avoid stacking it with strong AHA/BHA exfoliants or a retinoid in the same session — separate them by time of day or alternate nights.

Frequently asked questions
How do you use the Red Succinic Acid Serum?
After cleansing and toner, apply a few drops to the whole face or directly to breakouts, and pat until absorbed. Follow with moisturiser and, in the morning, sunscreen.
Can I use it every day?
Yes. Start once daily in the evening for the first week, then build to twice daily if your skin is comfortable. Succinic acid is gentle enough for continuous use.
How is it different from salicylic acid?
Salicylic acid is oil-soluble and works inside the pore, which makes it excellent for blackheads but often drying. Succinic acid is antibacterial and anti-inflammatory, better for inflamed spots and for skin that reacts badly to stronger acne actives.
Can I use it as a spot treatment?
Yes. Applying it directly to individual spots is a perfectly good way to use it, particularly if your breakouts are occasional rather than widespread.
Does it make my skin sensitive to the sun?
No. Unlike AHAs, succinic acid does not increase photosensitivity. Daily sunscreen is still essential — it prevents breakouts leaving lasting dark marks.
Can I use it with the peeling pads?
Yes. Use the pads two or three times a week and the serum daily. Just avoid adding a third acid product on pad nights.
How long until I see results?
Around four weeks for a noticeable reduction in breakouts. Redness often improves sooner. Individual results vary.
Is it suitable for sensitive skin?
It is one of the gentler blemish actives available, which is much of its appeal. Patch test first and start with every other evening if your skin is reactive.
