It pairs two of the best-evidenced pigmentation ingredients in dermatology — tranexamic acid and niacinamide — in a fragrance-free formula that can be used morning and night.

What the "15" in the name actually means

This is the single most misunderstood thing about this product, and most pages selling it get it wrong.

The 15 is not 15% tranexamic acid. It refers to the combined total of the two headline actives. The published ingredient list declares them by concentration:

    • Niacinamide — 100,000 ppm, which is 10%
    • Tranexamic acid — 50,000 ppm, which is 5%

10% plus 5% gives you the 15. Knowing this matters, because both of those are meaningful, well-studied concentrations in their own right — and because a serum claiming 15% tranexamic acid would be unusually high and worth being sceptical about.

Why tranexamic acid is the interesting ingredient here

Despite the name, tranexamic acid is not an exfoliating acid. It will not make your skin peel, sting or become sun-sensitive the way an AHA or BHA does. It is a completely different type of molecule that happens to have "acid" in its name.

It works further upstream than most brightening ingredients. Rather than simply blocking pigment production, it interrupts the signalling between skin cells and the pigment-producing melanocytes — the communication that tells them to start making melanin in the first place. That mechanism is why it has become one of the most-discussed ingredients in dermatology for melasma, which is notoriously resistant to ordinary brightening products.

It is also why this serum is worth considering if you have tried vitamin C and kojic acid without much success on that particular type of hormonal, patchy pigmentation.

    Niacinamide at 10%

Niacinamide slows the transfer of pigment from melanocytes up into the visible surface layers of skin. It also strengthens the barrier and moderates oil. At 10% it is at the higher end of what is commonly used — effective, though a small number of people find concentrations this high slightly tingly at first.

    The supporting ingredients

    • Arbutin — a gentler, slow-release relative of the brightening ingredients used clinically.
    • Glutathione — an antioxidant associated with a brighter overall tone.
    • Ferulic acid — an antioxidant that helps stabilise other antioxidants in a formula.
    • Peptides and a full hyaluronic acid complex — support and hydration, so the serum is not drying despite the active load.

Notably, no fragrance appears on the ingredient list, which is uncommon in this brand's range and makes this one of the better Medicube choices for reactive skin.

    How to use it

    1. Cleanse and tone first.
    2. Apply three to four drops to the whole face, not just onto individual spots — pigmentation is usually more widespread than it looks.
    3. Pat in, then follow with moisturiser.
    4. Sunscreen every single morning. This is not optional advice with this product.

Frequency: twice daily. It contains no exfoliating acids or retinoids, so there is no need to build up slowly and no rest days required.

Sunscreen is the part that decides whether this works

Every form of pigmentation — sun spots, melasma, post-acne marks — is driven or worsened by UV exposure. Using a brightening serum without daily sunscreen is close to pointless, because you spend each day undoing the previous night's progress. In Kuwait's UV levels this is the difference between visible results and none at all.

Pair it with the Zero Pore Moisture Sun Serum or the Collagen Firming Sun Cream.

    What it layers well with

Because it has no acids or retinoids of its own, it is one of the easiest serums in the range to combine. It sits comfortably with retinol at night and with vitamin C in the morning — in fact, tranexamic acid and vitamin C attack pigment by different routes, which makes them a genuinely complementary pair rather than a redundant one.

How it compares with the other Medicube brightening serums

    Serum Best for Key actives
TXA Niacinamide 15 Serum Melasma and stubborn dark spots 10% niacinamide + 5% tranexamic acid
Kojic Acid Turmeric Niacinamide Serum General dullness and uneven tone Kojic acid, turmeric, niacinamide
Deep Vita C Capsule Serum Antioxidant defence and radiance Vitamin C
Glutathione Glow Serum Overall brightness rather than spots Glutathione
Azelaic Acid 16 BB Calming Serum Redness with pigmentation together Azelaic acid

If you have melasma specifically, this is the one to start with. For everyday dullness, the kojic acid or vitamin C options are a better fit. To continue the treatment into your moisturiser step, the TXA Niacinamide Capsule Cream uses the same active pairing. Browse the complete Medicube range at EmartGCC.

    Frequently asked questions

Is the serum 15% tranexamic acid?

No. The 15 refers to the combined total of the two headline actives: 10% niacinamide (100,000 ppm) plus 5% tranexamic acid (50,000 ppm). Both figures are declared on the ingredient list. Five percent tranexamic acid is a meaningful, well-studied concentration in its own right.

Is tranexamic acid an exfoliating acid?

No, despite the name. It does not exfoliate, does not cause peeling or stinging, and does not make skin more sun-sensitive the way AHAs and BHAs do. It is a completely different class of molecule that works by interrupting the signals that trigger pigment production.

    Is it good for melasma?

Tranexamic acid is one of the most-discussed topical ingredients in dermatology for melasma, precisely because melasma responds poorly to ordinary brightening products. This serum is a reasonable place to start, but melasma is a persistent, often hormonally driven condition — significant cases are worth discussing with a dermatologist alongside a topical routine.

How long before I see results?

Pigmentation is slow to shift. Expect eight to twelve weeks of consistent twice-daily use before judging it, and longer for melasma. Anything promising faster than that on this type of pigmentation is overstating the case.

Can I use it with vitamin C?

Yes, and it is a sensible combination. Tranexamic acid and vitamin C reduce pigment by different mechanisms, so they complement rather than duplicate each other. Vitamin C in the morning and this serum twice daily works well.

Can I use it with retinol?

Yes. This serum contains no acids or retinoids of its own, so there is no conflict. Apply the retinol at night after this serum has absorbed, and build the retinol up gradually as usual.

    Does it contain fragrance?

No fragrance appears on the published ingredient list, which makes it one of the better options in the Medicube range for fragrance-sensitive or reactive skin. Patch test regardless if you react easily.

Do I need sunscreen with it?

Yes, and it is the single most important part of the routine. All pigmentation is driven by UV exposure, so using a brightening serum without daily sunscreen largely cancels out your progress. This matters more in Kuwait's UV levels than almost anywhere else.

Can I use it on post-acne marks?

Yes. The flat brown or pink marks left behind after a spot heals respond well to this combination of ingredients. Raised or indented acne scars are a different problem that topical products cannot fix.

    Is 10% niacinamide too strong?

For most people it is fine. It sits at the higher end of commonly used concentrations, and a small number of people find levels this high slightly tingly at first. If your skin is sensitive, start once daily and build up to twice.

    Buying Medicube in Kuwait

EmartGCC supplies 100% original Medicube with delivery across Kuwait, usually next day, cash on delivery available and a 14-day return window on unopened items. Store the serum out of direct sunlight and keep the cap closed — antioxidants like ferulic acid and glutathione degrade faster with heat and light exposure.
