Each alone is a legitimate active. Together, at 2,000ppm spicules and 1,000ppm retinol, the irritation risk is meaningfully higher than either the collagen spicule version or a standard retinol cream.

The formula does account for this — nano-liposomal encapsulation releases the retinol more gradually than free retinol, which reduces the irritation spike, and 2% panthenol, ceramide NP, hyaluronic acid and allantoin are included to soothe and rebuild the barrier. But encapsulation moderates the response; it does not eliminate it. If you have never used a retinoid before, this is not the product to start with. Begin with a plain low-strength retinol, establish tolerance over several weeks, and only then consider adding a spicule product.
