This is a physical exfoliant: rice husk and bran particles physically lift dead cells from the skin's surface when you massage them in. Physical exfoliation has a mixed reputation, largely earned by harsh scrubs with jagged particles — crushed nut shells being the notorious example — that create micro-tears. Finely milled rice particles are considerably gentler, and the 25% emollient content means the mask cushions as it works rather than dragging on dry skin.
