What 20% niacinamide means in practice
This is a high concentration, and it's worth understanding what that does and doesn't buy you. Most clinical evidence for niacinamide sits in the 2–5% range — that's where studies demonstrate reduced pigment transfer, improved barrier function and better sebum regulation. Going to 20% doesn't scale those benefits proportionally; there's no strong evidence that quadrupling the concentration quadruples the result. What it does reliably increase is the chance of irritation, which for niacinamide typically shows up as flushing, tingling or redness.
That's not a reason to avoid it — plenty of people use high-percentage niacinamide comfortably, and the formula here is sensibly built to offset the risk. But it does mean two things: if you're new to niacinamide, the 10% version is the more sensible starting point, and if you buy this one, introduce it gradually rather than going straight to twice daily.
The supporting cast is genuinely well chosen. Tranexamic acid is one of the better-evidenced pigmentation ingredients, working through a different pathway from niacinamide — it interrupts the signalling between skin cells and pigment-producing cells, and has real clinical support including for melasma. The triple centella complex (madecassoside, asiaticoside) has genuine soothing evidence and is doing important work here, buffering the high-strength active. Glutathione is popular for brightening, though topical evidence for it is thinner than for the other two — treat it as a supporting antioxidant.
On the packaging's "dark spot remover" framing: nothing removes dark spots. Pigmentation fades gradually as skin renews, over weeks to months. And no serum shrinks pores — the "#LargePores" claim reflects that clearer, less congested skin makes pores look smaller, not any change in pore size, which is largely genetic.
How to use it
- Apply a moderate amount to clean skin and pat gently for absorption.
- Start once daily, or every other day if your skin is reactive.
- Build to twice daily only if you tolerate it comfortably.
- Follow with moisturiser.
- Wear sunscreen every day — UV creates new pigment faster than any serum fades the old.

Frequently asked questions
Is 20% niacinamide better than 5%?
Not necessarily. Most clinical evidence sits at 2–5%, and there's no strong data showing benefits scale with concentration. Higher percentages do reliably raise irritation risk. If you're new to niacinamide, start lower.
Will it cause flushing or redness?
It can, especially at first and especially on reactive skin — that's the most common niacinamide side effect at high concentrations. Introduce it gradually. If flushing persists beyond the first couple of weeks, step down to a lower percentage.
Does it actually remove dark spots?
No product removes them. Pigmentation fades gradually as skin renews — expect eight to twelve weeks of consistent use. The tranexamic acid is doing much of the real work here alongside the niacinamide.
Will it make my pores smaller?
No. Pore size is largely genetic. Niacinamide can regulate sebum and reduce congestion, which makes pores look less noticeable — a real visible improvement, but not physical shrinkage.
Can I use it with vitamin C or retinol?
Yes. The old advice about niacinamide and vitamin C clashing has been largely debunked. With a 20% formula, though, introduce one active at a time so you can tell what your skin is reacting to.
Should I choose this or the Niacinamide 10?
Choose the 10 if you're new to niacinamide or have sensitive skin. Choose this if you've used niacinamide comfortably before and want the added tranexamic acid for stubborn pigmentation.
