JUMISO Blackhead Melting Softener is a succinic acid and PHA treatment applied on a soaked cotton pad — it softens hardened sebum so blackheads lift away without squeezing, and comes with two reusable cotton pads.

Why softening beats squeezing
Blackheads are pores plugged with sebum and dead skin that has oxidised and darkened at the surface. The instinct is to squeeze them out, which is exactly the wrong approach — squeezing damages the pore wall, pushes debris deeper, and frequently leaves inflammation or a mark worse than the blackhead. The alternative this product uses is to chemically soften the plug first so it releases with minimal pressure.
Succinic acid is the lead ingredient — it has sebum-dissolving and mildly antibacterial properties, and has become popular precisely for this kind of congestion work. PHA (polyhydroxy acid) adds gentle exfoliation; PHAs have larger molecules than AHAs, so they penetrate more slowly and are generally better tolerated by sensitive skin. Cypress water provides a soothing base.
The method matters as much as the formula. Soak a pad, rest it on the area for 10–15 minutes, then remove the softened plugs gently. Use a cotton swab rather than a metal extractor tool if you're unsure — metal comedone extractors apply far more pressure than most people realise and are easy to misuse. Whatever is still firmly stuck after softening should be left alone until next time. Forcing it defeats the entire purpose.
One honest caveat: blackheads recur. This isn't a permanent fix, because sebum production continues and pores refill. Regular gentle maintenance works far better than occasional aggressive extraction. And to be clear — this does not shrink pores. Pore size is largely genetic; what changes is that an unclogged pore looks smaller and lighter than one packed with oxidised sebum.
How to use it
- Soak a cotton pad with the softener and place it on clean, dry skin.
- Leave for 10–15 minutes — no longer.
- Gently remove softened blackheads with a cotton swab. Never force stubborn ones.
- Rinse well with lukewarm water.
- Once weekly for sensitive skin, up to twice weekly for oily skin.
- Wear sunscreen the next day — the PHA exfoliates, so skin is more sun-vulnerable.

Frequently asked questions
Will it shrink my pores?
No. Pore size is largely genetic and no product changes it. Clearing the oxidised sebum plug makes a pore look considerably smaller and lighter — a genuine visible improvement, but not physical shrinkage.
Do the blackheads come back?
Yes, because your skin keeps producing sebum. That's normal and not a failure of the product. Regular gentle maintenance every week or two works far better than occasional aggressive extraction.
Should I use a metal extractor tool?
A cotton swab is safer. Metal comedone extractors apply much more pressure than people expect and can damage the pore wall or leave marks if used incorrectly. Anything still firmly stuck after softening should be left for next time.
Can I use it more than twice a week?
No — it contains PHA, so it's an exfoliating treatment. Over-use damages the skin barrier and can trigger more oil production, making congestion worse rather than better.
Is it safe for sensitive skin?
Reasonably. PHAs are the gentlest of the exfoliating acids, and cypress water soothes. Stick to once weekly and reduce the contact time to 10 minutes if your skin is very reactive.
Can I use it with retinol or other acids?
Not on the same day. Combining this with a retinoid or another exfoliant significantly raises irritation risk. Space them across different days.
